Bacon Double Cheeseburger Pie

Tenderflake® Frozen Deep Dish Pie Shell
1 lb (500g) 
Extra lean ground beef
Large onion, diced
Clove garlic, minced
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp (15mL) 
Dijon mustard
Egg, beaten
Slices MAPLE LEAF® Ready Crisp® Fully-Cooked Bacon pieces, coarsely chopped and divided
Medium tomatoes, sliced
1 ½ cups (375mL) 
Shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

PREHEAT oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the pie shell according to package directions for a baked pie shell. Set aside.

COOK beef, onion and garlic in a large pan over medium high heat until meat is fully cooked, approximately 8 to 10 minutes. Drain meat mixture if necessary and return to pan. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

STIR mustard, egg and half the bacon, into beef mixture.

LAYER half of the meat mixture in baked pie shell, top with enough sliced tomatoes just to cover meat surface. Add remaining meat mixture and cheese. Top with remaining tomato slices and bacon.

BAKE at 400°F (200°C) for 20 to 25 minutes or until cheese is melted and slightly golden. Allow to stand for five minutes before serving.

TIPS: • Make your beef filling and bake pie shell the day before. Refrigerate filling overnight and fill the baked pie shell just before final baking for a fast dinner preparation! • Serve with your favorite burger condiments e.g. mustard, ketchup or relish • Try topping with sliced onions in addition to or instead of tomatoes
